Bayer MaterialScience Develops Flame retardant Polycarbonate Plastic for LEDs

September 10, 2010... Bayer MaterialScience has developed a new flame retardant polycarbonate plastic that the company says will allow electronics manufacturers to slim down lenses and lens covers of LEDs. The company's new Makrolon® FR7067 polycarbonate plastic meets UL-94 V0 rating at 1.5 mm compared to the 3.0 mm required by most traditional flame retardant polycarbonates meet this key flammability rating. The new grade of plastic achieves the UL-94 V0 rating at 1.5 mm while offering light transmission of nearly 90 percent.
