In recent years, with the improvement in brightness and reduction in cost, some auto LED lamps have achieved increasing application volume. In China, LED rear lamps have been adopted by Honda Accord, Crown, Reiz and Cadillac.

According to different application fields, auto LED lamps can be divided into lamps for light distribution and lamps for decoration. Lamps for light distribution are mainly used as the backlight display of meter lamps, front/rear turn lamps, brake telltale lamps, reversing lamps, fog lamps and reading lamps, etc. Lamps for decoration are applied in the color changes of auto lighting to decorate the internal and external parts of vehicles. The application of white LED in auto lamps is still at the initial stage. Its brightness can be enhanced gradually, so it possesses a quite optimistic prospect in the auto headlamp field.

Presently, in China, auto LED lamps are still concentrated in the OEM market while the aftermarket is starting to take off. Auto LED lamps converted from halogen lamps have much stronger night visibility, rich colors and fashionable styles. Therefore, they are popular with fashion-conscious consumers.

Since 1st September 2009, the EUs ban on incandescent light bulbs went into effect. Incandescent light bulbs will be forbidden to use in the EU by 2012. Meanwhile, new vehicles in the EU and some other countries are required to be installed with specific lamps for daytime driving. Stimulated by the governmental policies on forbidding the use and production of incandescent light bulbs, the demand for auto LED lamps will enjoy prominent growth. The energy-saving and environmental-friendly auto LED lamp technology will usher in a new development period.

It is forecast that the auto LED lighting will achieve outstanding growth in the LED lighting market in the following years. Both the auto interior lighting and the energy-saving green lighting depend on the LED technology. In the future, the auto LED lighting technology will definitely become the competition focus.
